It’s always an exciting day when the new collection of kantha quilts arrives at Decorator’s Notebook. Each quilt takes about six days to make so we usually have several months to wait while the women at Basha carefully sew our quilts by hand, ready for their long journey from Bangladesh. But oh, how they are worth the wait! The quilts are made from vintage saris so every single one is unique and we don’t know exactly the colours and patterns each collection will include so we love unpacking the boxes. The ladies at Basha have absolutely excelled themselves this time, creating the new 2016 kantha quilts for us… they are all stunning!
For the first time we can also show exactly how each quilt is made with this lovely video of Rina sewing a kantha from start to finish, from selecting the perfect pair of saris for each side to embroidering a name label to complete the finished quilt. I hope you love watching it as much as I did.
This is just a small taster, so if you’ve been waiting to select your kantha quilt I’m sure you’ll find the perfect one in our new collection. You can find all the new kantha quilts here. By investing in one you’ll be part of a very special story, allowing us to help more women escape a hellish life of trafficking and sex work and help them rebuild their lives through dignified employment as part of the supportive Basha community. Decorator’s Notebook is now in its third year of supporting this life-changing social enterprise – you can read more about the Basha story here and learn how your purchase directly supports their work.
